Gneiss stone bark is top of the top when it comes to garden stones. It cannot be compared with wooden bark, which is blown away by the wind, is short-lived and decomposes.
This is a material you spread once and forget about for years. It will not draw attention when leaves fall, snow melts or rain comes, and it forgives a lot when you do not have the time or energy to clean garden beds. Every year it still looks beautiful. It does not absorb chlorophyll from leaves, and even if it did, you would hardly notice it.
The variety of products made from this material is so wide that the entire garden can look very elegant and consistent. It gives a rustic, natural appearance with sparkling reflections while remaining practically indestructible. Without question it is one of the best choices for a garden. It looks great with conifers, ornamental grasses, heather and modern arrangements.
An additional advantage is that this material is triple washed, so there are no surprises in the bag. Bags are packed directly at the quarry. It is undoubtedly the best material that can be spread quickly in garden beds without additional work.

Key properties of gneiss stone bark
- Rock type — metamorphic gneiss (mainly quartz + feldspar + mica + other minerals, layered structure)
- Color — dominant shades of grey-brown, grey-yellow, beige-brown with stripes or streaks; often shiny mica flakes reflecting light (golden, silver or pearlescent reflections in sunlight)
- Grain shape — flat, broken, sharp, irregular (bark-like) → very good stability and grip
- Hardness — high (approx. 6–7 on the Mohs scale), very resistant to abrasion and mechanical damage
- Frost resistance — full (F1–F2), excellent in the Polish climate – does not crack or flake
- Water absorption — low (usually <1–2%) → does not absorb much water and does not get dirty easily
- Weather resistance — extremely high: does not fade, does not grow moss, does not degrade (unlike wooden bark)
- Weight — high → lays well, resistant to wind, animals and movement
- Aesthetics — natural, rustic, elegant; play of light on shimmering surfaces; contrasts beautifully with greenery, wood and concrete
- Practical advantages — retains moisture in the soil, suppresses weeds, does not require yearly replacement, ecological (natural, without chemicals)
- Non-flammable, chemically neutral, does not deacidify soil (neutral)
