Key properties of Janowice marble aggregate for gabions
- Rock type — metamorphic dolomite (dolomitic marble), calcium carbonate + magnesium with natural coloring impurities
- Color — light pastel mix: dominant white / ecru / ivory (~50–70%) with shades of beige, cream, delicate pink, ochre, light brown, grey, sometimes blue or greenish tones; natural variation between batches – each delivery slightly different, creating a “living” effect
- Structure — small crystals in the grains → strongly shimmering / sparkling in sunlight (pearl / diamond effect)
- Grain shape — irregular, crushed, angular with sharp edges → locks well in gabion mesh, ensuring stable construction
- Hardness — medium (3.5–4.5 on the Mohs scale), sufficient for gabions
- Frost resistance — good (F1–F2), suitable for the Polish climate – does not crack or flake
- Water absorption — medium to high (1–4%) → absorbs moisture; after rain the color becomes more intense and vivid; surface impregnation recommended in areas exposed to dirt
- Acid resistance — low (reacts with acids → may become dull from acidic fertilizers, vinegar or acid rain)
- Soil properties — strongly deacidifies soil (calcium-magnesium effect), suitable around acid-loving plants (conifers, heather, rhododendrons)
- Aesthetics — bright, warm, elegant, “cozy”; brightens surroundings and contrasts with greenery, wood, concrete and black elements; creates a “snow-pastel wall” effect
- Natural, without artificial dyes, ecological
