It is a natural crushed aggregate made from gneiss – a metamorphic rock with a characteristic layered (cleavable) structure. Thanks to the specific crushing and sorting process, the grains have flat, irregular, sharp edges and resemble the appearance of tree bark – hence the popular name “stone bark”.

Gneiss stone bark is considered one of the best decorative stones for gardens. Unlike wooden bark, which can rot, blow away or degrade over time, this material remains stable and durable for many years.

You spread it once and forget about maintenance. It does not attract attention when leaves fall, snow accumulates or rain appears, and it tolerates seasonal changes very well. Even if organic residues appear, they are hardly noticeable. Every year it continues to look natural and elegant.

The wide range of products made from this material allows you to design an entire garden with a consistent and elegant style. It provides a rustic, natural appearance with subtle shimmering reflections and is practically indestructible. It looks excellent with conifers, ornamental grasses, heathers and modern garden arrangements. An additional advantage is that the material is triple-washed, ensuring a clean and uniform product. The bags are packed directly at the quarry.

Key properties of gneiss stone bark
  • Rock type — metamorphic gneiss (mainly quartz, feldspar, mica and other minerals with a layered structure)
  • Color — dominant grey-brown, grey-yellow and beige-brown tones with stripes and veins; often contains shimmering mica flakes producing golden, silver or pearlescent reflections in sunlight
  • Grain shape — flat, broken, sharp and irregular (bark-like), providing excellent stability and adhesion
  • Hardness — high (approx. 6–7 on the Mohs scale), very resistant to abrasion and mechanical damage
  • Frost resistance — full (F1–F2), excellent for Central European climates
  • Water absorption — low (usually <1–2%), does not absorb much water and resists staining
  • Weather resistance — extremely high; does not fade, does not grow moss easily and does not degrade
  • Weight — high, which keeps the material stable and resistant to wind, animals or displacement
  • Aesthetics — natural, rustic and elegant; shimmering mineral flakes beautifully reflect light and contrast with greenery, wood and concrete
  • Practical advantages — retains soil moisture, suppresses weeds and does not require seasonal replacement
  • Non-flammable, chemically neutral and does not affect soil acidity
