Gneiss boulders are one of the most durable and visually striking materials for large accents in a garden. Perfect for rock gardens, solitaires, imitation of natural rock formations, around ponds or in beds with ornamental grasses — they create a massive, natural and timeless appearance with a beautiful mica shimmer. Most often chosen in sizes 80–150 cm as single solitaires or in groups of 3–5 pieces. They combine perfectly with conifers, perennials, ornamental grasses, heather, and both modern and naturalistic garden designs. If you want a strong mountain accent in your garden, gneiss boulders are a top choice.
Take a look at our Facebook and see how beautifully they shimmer in the sun.

Key properties of gneiss boulders
- Rock type — metamorphic gneiss (mainly quartz + feldspar + mica + other minerals); strongly layered / banded structure (foliation), giving a characteristic striped appearance
- Color — grey-brown / golden grey-brown / beige-brown with bands; often shimmering with small mica flakes (golden / silver / pearlescent reflections in sunlight); after rain or moisture the shine becomes satin-like
- Shape — irregular, broken, rough with sharp or uneven edges; natural raw forms (not rounded like pebbles)
- Hardness — very high (approx. 6–7 on the Mohs scale), extremely resistant to abrasion, impacts and damage
- Frost resistance — full (F1–F2), excellent in the Polish climate – does not crack or flake and does not change color for decades
- Water absorption — low (<1–2%) → absorbs very little water, does not easily get dirty, does not grow moss
- Weather resistance — extremely high: no fading, no UV degradation, resistant to frost, rain and acid precipitation
- Aesthetics — natural and rustic with elegance; banded texture with shimmering reflections creates a “living”, mountain stone effect and adds mass and structure to the garden
- Practical advantages — stabilizes slopes, retains moisture in soil, suppresses weeds around plants; heavy → stable without anchoring
- Natural, without artificial dyes, ecological and chemically neutral
