Key properties of Janowice standard grit
- Rock type — multicolored dolomite
- Color — light with a clear dominance of white / ecru (approx. 50–70% of grains are white or very light). The remaining grains contain subtle beige, cream, ivory, light gray and ochre shades — with significantly fewer intense browns or grays than in the “colored / pastel” version. The appearance is generally more uniform and “whiter”, although depending on the rock it may sometimes appear more colorful.
- Structure — numerous small crystals in the grains → shimmering in the light (a “diamond” / pearly effect). It sparkles beautifully in the sun.
- Hardness — medium (3.5–4.5 on the Mohs scale), softer than granite / basalt but sufficient for decorative purposes
- Frost resistance — good (F1–F2), suitable for the Polish climate, although dolomite may become slightly matte after many years
- Water absorption — medium to high (1–4%, higher than silicate rocks) → absorbs moisture and dirt, impregnation recommended for pathways
- Acid resistance — low (reacts with acids → may become matte, stains from fertilizers, vinegar or acid rain)
- Soil properties — strongly deacidifies soil (calcium-magnesium effect of dolomite), ideal around conifers, heather plants and plants that prefer acidic / neutral soil
- Aesthetics — warm, pastel, multicolored tones; depending on the batch it may appear very light, neutral and elegant, brightening the garden with a clean and modern look and a warm, earthy tone
- Natural, without dyes, ecological
